Apparently I don't have very many pictures of my mom on my computer. So, while this isn't me that she's holding imagine, if you will, that it could have been about 24 1/2 years ago or so.
My mom is one of the most AMAZING people that I know, or have ever met. I always knew that she was pretty incredible, but I didn't really understand just how incredible she was until I became a mother myself. As I get older, my capacity to love continues to increase. When I met Mike and fell in love, I felt so full of love that I couldn't fathom it increasing anymore. After we were married a little while, I was amazed at how much that love could grow. When Mason was born, my life changed completely and he became the most important. Suddenly, I would do anything, give anything, to make sure that he was healthy and happy. It wasn't until then, that I really began to understand the love that my mom has for me.
With young children, my mom decided to go to nursing school and took classes in the evening at Ricks College so that she could help provide for our family. When we were elementary age, she always adjusted her work schedule so she was home when we were, and worked less in the summer so that we could enjoy the days together. Once we were high school age and the financial burden of older children became greater she worked full time, and took on extra nights and weekends at a second job so that there was extra to go around. When I started college, she was still working countless hours a week so that I didn't have to work while going to school, or pay my own tuition. (Or anything else for that matter, including rent, groceries, books, cell phone, car/health insurance, and spending cash to boot. All things you don't really think about until you pay them yourself) Once I was to the end of my university days, she had finally cut back to only one job, but still took on extra overtime whenever she could.
More than anything, my mom is the perfect example of how to serve others and be truly selfless. She has never hesitated to give or do anything that she could for her children. She taught us with a testimony of the gospel to love the Lord, to serve others, to work hard, and to always believe that anything was possible. She was and continues to be a my #1 cheerleader/fan club and when everything else seems to be going wrong, she can always help me to see the glass half full and convince me otherwise. Without her, I would not be who I am today or have been able to accomplish the things that I have. I am so blessed and thankful to have her, and pretty much forever in her debt. (Which means your hard work will eventually pay off, and one day I'll be able to begin to repay you, or at least guarantee you a room in my house when you get old :) ) I love you more than I even know how to express. Thank you for EVERYTHING that you do.
My other mama is amazingly noteworthy as well. She had 4 kids before Mike's dad was done with dental school. (INCREDIBLE--I can't even imagine. At this point I still think Mason may be an only child) While they were in school, they survived on something like $60 a month. The majority of it went to formula, a little put gas in the car and somehow she was able to keep the family fed on what little was left.
With a beautiful talent for quilting, she's always working on a project for someone else, for any number of special occasions. You certainly are lucky if you get one of her quilts because of the tremendous amount of time she spends stitching her love into each one.
Quilts aren't the only things she makes. She also created SEVEN beautiful children. With a knack for sewing, she also made clothes for all her kids while they were growing up. While in high school, she embroidered all of the team jackets, fleeces, and sweatshirts for the various sport teams they were on and also the sashes for homecoming.
She has successfully raised the most important man in my life, and my best friend. He loves with all his heart, works hard, and always puts the needs of me and Mason before his own. All of which, he learned from her example.
We are incredibly blessed to have such wonderful moms and can never say thank you enough for everything that you have done, and continue to do for us. We LOVE LOVE LOVE you!
Happy Mother's Day!
